Every religion has its icons, symbols, and sigils, and Paganism is no different. But since Paganism is so broad (it encompasses dozens of different pre-Christian religions), the symbols associated with Paganism vary radically. In this article, we’ll cover the 25 most common Pagan symbols and break down what they are, where they come from, and what they represent. We also spoke to spiritualist Elianne El-Amyouni about the deeper Hermetic and philosophical meanings behind these Pagan symbols.

QuestionIs there a connection between paganism, its symbols, and freemasonry?John Paul Gomez is a freemason and the founder of FraternalTies based in Toronto, Canada. With over 17 years in the world of freemasonry, John Paul is the Worshipful Master of his Freemason lodge. In 2008, when he first joined the freemason fraternity, he was searching for a Masonic necktie and discovered a need for more modern, elevated designs. In 2009, John Paul established FraternalTies, creating product lines of high-quality Masonic ties that honor the tradition and help elevate the Masonic experience for members. Their custom neckties are touted as best-in-class by several Masonic podcasts, including the Meet, Act and Part podcast and Masonic publications like the Southern California Research Lodge's Fraternal Review magazine. John Paul is an alumni from DeMolay International, a youth leadership organization with Masonic origins. The main connection is that we don’t do Masonic work on Sundays. Why? Back then Masons were building cathedrals, and Sunday was for worship, so no hammering while the flock was at prayer. Now, a lot of church rituals themselves came from older pagan traditions. Freemasonry doesn’t teach paganism and its symbols, but some customs that we follow come from that mix of history.
