Block numbers and more with Mr. Number
Mr. Number is an easy-to-use mobile application you can use to block unwanted phone calls and text messages. You can also use the Mr. Number app to reverse look up numbers and see caller ID. This wikiHow guide teaches you how to install and use the Mr. Number app on an Android or iPhone.

Open the keypad, then enter a number. Tap the button under the number to view info about that number, including if it's suspected spam. You can block numbers from this page, or you can go into your app settings (iPhone) or the Blocking tab (Android) to manually add numbers to block.

Getting Started With Mr. Number

Open the Mr. Number app. If you don't already have the Mr. Number app, download it. Mr. Number is available from the Google Play Store on Android phones, and the App Store on iPhone. Use the following steps to download and install Mr. Number:
- Open the Google Play Store on Android or App Store on iPhone.
- Tap the Search tab, if necessary.
- Type Mr. Number in the Search bar.
- Tap Mr. Number .
- Tap Install or GET .

Accept Mr. Number's terms and policies to continue. Here's how to do it:
- iPhone: Check the box next to "I've read and agree to Mr. Number's Terms of Service and Data Policy," then tap the orange Get Started button.
- Android: Check the boxes next to "I've read and agree to Mr. Number's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy" and "I consent to Mr. Number using my phone number for verification, authentication, and spam reporting," then tap the blue Get Started button.

Subscribe to the service. Mr. Number requires a subscription fee of $3.99 per month, $24.99 per year, or a one-time purchase of $74.99 for life. A free 7-day trial is available if you choose a monthly or yearly subscription. [1] X Research source
- You may need to enter your password, Face ID, or Touch ID/fingerprint to purchase a subscription.

Tap the keypad button. On iPhone, it's the first tab in the bottom-left corner, and on Android, it's the middle tab. On both devices, the button icon looks like a keypad (a 3x3 square of dots with one dot at the bottom), and on Android, the button says Keypad .

Dial a number. Use the keys on the keypad to dial a phone number you want to call or look up.

Tap Lookup . This appears below the phone number when you finish dialing it, though the word "Lookup" will change to something else (such as the name of the number's owner, "Personal line," "Suspected spam," etc.)
- If Mr. Number doesn't suspect the number is spam, you will see the following options (not necessarily in this order, depending on your device type):
- Block/Block this number: Tap this to block the number from calling you.
- Report Spam/Report Caller: Tap this to submit a spam report to Mr. Number about this number.
- Call: Tap this to immediately call the number.
- Save to contacts: Tap this to save this number as a contact on your phone.
- Suggest a name: Tap this and enter a suggested name for the number. (iPhone only)
- Share
: Tap this to send the number in a message to someone.
- On Android, you'll also see "Recent reports" as well as "Contact info."
- If Mr. Number suspects the number to be spam, the "lookup" button will say "Suspected Spam", and you'll see the options below on iPhone. On Android, you'll see the same options listed above.
- Block: Tap this to block the number from calling you.
- Report Spam: Tap this to submit a spam report to Mr. Number about this number.
- X user report(s): If other users have reported this number as spam, you can read their reports here for more information.
- Call: Tap this to immediately call the number.
- Not spam? Let us know: If the number has been mistakenly reported as spam, you can let Mr. Number know that it's an error.
- If Mr. Number doesn't suspect the number is spam, you will see the following options (not necessarily in this order, depending on your device type):

Tap X or 🡸 to back out of the lookup screen. You can then call the number by pressing the phone button at the bottom of the keypad. If you don't want to call the number, you can either tap the x button next to the number (iPhone only) or repeatedly tap the backspace button (to the right of the phone button) to clear the number.

Exploring the Mr. Number App

Tap the clock button. On iPhone, it's the second button at the bottom of the screen. On Android, it's on the keypad screen, to the left of the phone button. This will show you what numbers you have recently looked up in Mr. Number.
- iPhone:
- Tap the Block
button to block the number.
- If you haven't enabled Mr. Number to block calls and provide caller ID, you will be prompted to now. Tap the button to go to your phone settings and enable the appropriate permissions.
- Tap Unblock to unblock the number.
- Tap the Block
button to block the number.
- Android:
- Tap the number to open the lookup screen again, where you can tap Block to block the number and Unblock to unblock the number.
- Tap the x button to delete the number from your recent lookups.
- iPhone:

Tap the graph button (iPhone only). This simply displays Mr. Number's global stats for the past 7 days.

3Tap the Calls button (Android only). This will show all of the calls you've recently made.

4Tap the Blocking button (Android only). This will allow you to set your call blocking settings, as well as view your block list.
- Block List: If you tap on this option, you'll see all the numbers you've blocked. You can also add a number to the list by tapping the + and choosing to enter the number, pick a number from your recent calls, choose from your contacts, or block all numbers that start with a certain number. To unblock a number, tap the x button next to it.
- Scam Calls, Nuisance Calls & Private numbers: You can choose either Warn me to warn when one of these calls comes through, or Block to block the call entirely.

5Tap the Premium button (Android only). This page will tell you which premium plan you're signed up for (monthly, annual, or life) and how many calls Mr. Number has blocked, how many calls Mr. Number has identified, and how many lookups have been identified.

Changing Settings (Android)

1Tap on the Settings button. It's at the bottom of the screen, all the way to the right.
- Some of the call blocking settings on Android are found in the Blocking tab, which we covered above .

2Choose your caller ID settings. At the top of the screen, you'll see a header that says "Caller ID." You can adjust your caller ID settings here.
- Calls from saved contacts: By default, the option will be set to "Do nothing." Tap on this option to choose between Show caller ID and Do nothing .
- Outgoing Calls: By default, the option will be set to "Show caller ID." Tap on this option to choose between Show caller ID and Do nothing .

3Adjust your app settings. Under the Caller ID section, you'll see a header that says "App Settings." You can adjust your Mr. Number app settings in this section.
- Contacts only:
Toggle this option on if you want to block calls from anyone who is not in your contacts list. By default, this is toggled off.
- If you routinely get calls from people not in your contacts list, you should not toggle this option on, or you might miss important calls.
- Suggested people and businesses: By default, this is set to "Show." If you wish to hide suggested people and businesses, tap the option and choose Hide .
- Manage notifications: Tap this to open your phone's notification settings, so you can adjust them for Mr. Number.
- Delete call logs: If you want to delete all the call logs from Mr. Number on your device, tap this option, then tap Delete .
- Contacts only:
Toggle this option on if you want to block calls from anyone who is not in your contacts list. By default, this is toggled off.

4Tap Help & Support > Help for help with the app. You can browse Mr. Number's help articles from here, or tap the speech bubble icon to contact Mr. Number.

5Tap About & Privacy > Privacy and data collection . You can adjust what data Mr. Number can collect from you on this page.
- Tap App permissions to see what permissions Mr. Number has on your device.
- Tap Manage my data.
This will open a page in your web browser. On this page, you can find links to different submission forms to change or remove your info from caller ID, remove a comment, and more.
- The webpage will say "Hiya" at the top instead of "Mr. Number." This is because Mr. Number is owned by Hiya.

Changing Settings (iPhone)

Tap the cogwheel button. This will open Mr. Number's settings, where you can enable caller ID & blocking, view and edit your blocked numbers, use spoofing protection, and customize your general preferences.

2Tap Continue at the top of the screen (optional). If you want, you can give Mr. Number permission to access your Contacts. This will ensure that Mr. Number does not block calls from your contacts.
- After tapping Continue , tap the button to allow Mr. Number to access your contacts. Otherwise, tap Don't Allow if you've changed your mind.

Tap Enable Caller ID & Blocking . If you haven't enabled Mr. Number to block numbers or act as a caller ID, you won't be able to use the app to the fullest..

Tap Go to phone settings . This will open the correct page in your iPhone settings to give Mr. Number the correct permissions.

5Toggle on all three options under "Call Identification." The three options are "Mr. Number – 1," "Mr. Number – 3," and "Mr. Number – 2."
- Once you've enabled these options, exit your Settings app and return to Mr. Number.

Tap Enable next to "Automatic Updates" (optional). If you enable automatic updates, Mr. Number will automatically update your spam number databases. However, you do not need to enable this to use the Mr. Number app, and can instead accept updates manually.

Tap Call Blocking . You can adjust the calls you want to block from this submenu.
- Tap Blocked Numbers to see which numbers you have blocked with Mr. Number.
- Toggle on Block Fraud Calls
, Block Nuisance Calls
, and Block Spoofing Calls
to automatically block these types of calls using Mr. Number's spam number database.
- By default, only Block Fraud Calls will be toggled on.
- If you don't want to block some or all of these call types, toggle them off.

Tap Spoofing Protection (optional). Spoofing is when a scam caller fakes their number to pretend to be a business or pretend to be a local number. This is to try and convince people to pick up because the number looks familiar. If you enable Mr. Number's call spoofing protection, Mr. Number will notify you when a number that's calling you is a potentially spoofed call.
- To enable protection, tap Add a number .

Tap Clear Recent Searches . By clicking this button, you will clear out your recent number searches in the Recent tab (the clock icon at the bottom of the screen). Tap Yes to confirm that you want to clear your recent searches.

Toggle on Outdated Database Warnings (optional). If you want to be notified when your spam number database is outdated, toggle this option on. Mr. Number will send you a notification if the database hasn't been updated in at least 48 hours.
- If you tapped Enable to turn on automatic updates, this option will already be toggled.

Tap Privacy and Data > Manage my Data . This will open a page in your web browser. On this page, you can find links to different submission forms to change or remove your info from caller ID, remove a comment, and more. [2] X Research source
