Do you need to turn a PDF into a JPG (or JPEG) image? If you’re not an Adobe Acrobat subscriber, never fear–there are many free and easy ways to convert your PDFs to JPGs, from online converters to freeware apps. If you’re on a Mac, you can use built-in apps and utilities on your computer. Any PDF to JPG App for Windows

Get "Any PDF to JPG" from the Microsoft Store. Any PDF to JPG is a free app for Windows. This is a good option if you are concerned about the security risks of using online converters. To download this app, press the Win key on your keyboard and open the Microsoft Store. [1] X Research source
- Once the Store is open, enter Any PDF to JPG into the search bar at the top of your screen.
- The search result lists "AnywaySoft, Inc" as the publisher and features an icon with "PDF" highlighted in red-orange and an arrow pointing down to "JPG" highlighted in green.
- This app features a lot of downloads and a high rating.
- Click Get to install the free app.
- If you don’t like this option, there are a variety of other free apps for Windows you can try, such as PDFMate (available from the developer website here ) or Total PDF Converter (also available in the Microsoft Store ).

Open Any PDF to JPG. You can click it in your Start menu or click Open from the Microsoft Store if you're still on that page.

Click Load PDF . You'll see this in the top left corner of the window.
- Browse your file manager for your PDF, then double-click it to open it.
- Once you double-click the file in File Explorer, you'll see it in the Any PDF to JPG window and can look through the pages of your PDF.

Click Save Image . This is the image of a floppy disk and is in the lower right corner.

Leave the defaults or change the settings. In the next window that appears, you can change the location where the JPEG images will save, or you can leave it alone. You can also decide if you want all the pages in the PDF to be converted or if you only want a specific page.

Click Continue . You'll see a progress counter at the top of the window as your PDF converts to JPG.
- Once it's done, you'll see a dialog window open. Click Open Folder to see your pictures or close the app if you're done with it.

Preview (Mac Only)

Use Preview to quickly convert individual PDF pages. Preview is a free image viewing and editing app that comes with your Mac. You can use it to easily and securely convert individual pages in PDF files to other formats without having to download any additional software. To open your PDF, either open Preview and go to File > Open, or you can right-click (or Ctrl -click) on your PDF and select Open with > Preview .
- Keep in mind that this method will only convert one page of your PDF at a time ! You’ll need to select each page that you want to save as a JPG, one at a time, and repeat this process for all of them.
- If you have a longer PDF that you want to convert into JPG files, you can use your Mac’s Automator app to do that.

4Click the "Format" drop-down box. This box is near the middle of the window. Clicking it will open a drop-down menu.

Set the image resolution and quality. Drag the Quality slider that's in the middle of the window to the left to reduce quality, or to the right to increase quality. You can also change the resolution using the text field and drop-down menu next to Resolution .
- For example, for a more compressed JPG file, you might change the resolution from 300 pixels/inch to 72 pixels/inch.

Select a save location. Click the Where drop-down menu to browse for a save location.

Automator (Mac Only)

1Use Automator to create batches of JPGs from multi-page PDFs. Automator is a free utility that comes with your Mac. With a few steps, you can use it to set up a workflow that will convert multi-page PDFs into JPG images. Once you’re finished with the initial setup, you can use this automation any time with a couple of mouse clicks! To get started, start Automator from the Launchpad in your Mac’s Dock.
- You can also find it by clicking the Spotlight Search icon in the menu bar at the top of your screen and typing in automator .

2Start a new Quick Action. In Automator, go to File > New and select Quick Action .

3Search for render and select Render PDF Pages as Images . In the search bar at the top left side of the window, type in render . Choose Render PDF Pages as Images from the list of available actions.

4Drag the action into the workflow window. Click the selected action and drag it into the grey area in the main window at right, where you see the text “Drag actions or files here to build your workflow.”

5Set the format to JPEG image . This option may be selected by default, but if it isn’t, use the dropdown next to Format in the workflow window to select it. You can also make other adjustments at this point, such as changing the resolution, compression amount, and color model of your JPG images (e.g., RGB vs. grayscale or CMYK).

6Search for copy and select Copy Finder Items . In this action, you’ll specify where the newly generated JPG files end up. Click Copy Finder Items in the results and drag it to the workflow window, underneath your first action.

7Select the output location for your files. In the new action, click the drop down menu next to To: and select a location. By default, this will be set to Desktop .
- If you want your JPG files to replace any existing files with the same name in your chosen location, check the box next to Replace existing files .

8Save your quick action. Go to File > Save and give your quick action a name you’ll easily recognize. For example, “PDFtoJPG.” Click the Save button when you’re done.

9Open Finder and locate the PDF you want to convert.

10Right-click or Ctrl -click the PDF file. A context menu will open.

11Hover over Quick Actions and select your automation. When you hover your mouse over Quick Actions , a sub-menu will expand. Select the automation you just created. It may take a couple seconds to run. The converted pages will appear as individual JPG files in the location you selected.
- If you want to run this automation in the future, there’s no need to open the Automator app! Just right-click any PDF file and choose your quick action from the menu.

Adobe Acrobat

1Open the PDF you want to convert in Acrobat. If you have Adobe Acrobat, you can easily convert PDFs to JPG from within the app. Since Acrobat isn’t free, this option is only practical if you already have a subscription. However, this method has the advantage of being secure and available on a wide variety of devices and platforms (including Windows, Mac, mobile devices, and the web). 3Click Image format in the left menu pane. It’s under the EXPORT PDF TO header.

4Choose JPEG from the dropdown menu. This option may be selected by default.

5Click Convert to JPEG . It’s a blue button at the bottom of the EXPORT PDF TO section of the menu.

6Choose a destination for your images and click Save As . If prompted, specify whether you want to overwrite any existing files with the same name as your images. Click Save to confirm and complete the conversion. Multi-page PDFs will be saved as a series of separate JPEG images.
- In the mobile app, tap ••• in the top right corner of the screen and select Export as… then tap the Image tab. Select JPEG , then tap Continue . Choose Save to Photos at the bottom of the screen, or tap Share images to see sharing options.
