If you give the Viber app permission to access your contacts when you first set up your account, it will automatically sync all the contacts on your phone or tablet. But what if you want to add a new contact who isn’t in your device’s Contacts app? In this article, we’ll show you how to do that in a few simple steps. Plus, we’ll explain how to troubleshoot the app if it isn’t syncing on its own.

    • Alternatively, if you have a QR code with the person’s Viber contact information, tap QR Scanner under Or Scan QR Code . Scan the code and tap Save (iOS) or the Checkmark (Android).
  4. On the next screen, you can enter a first and last name for your contact. You can also tap Add photo to upload an image.
  5. The number and any additional contact info you added will be saved to your Viber contacts list.

    • Contacts who are in your phone contact list but don’t have Viber accounts will have a green phone icon and the text Viber Out call . You can still call them from Viber, but you’ll have to use credits.

  1. If your contacts aren’t syncing correctly, restarting the app might help. Exit the Viber app and relaunch it, then try again.
  2. Viber needs access to a cellular data or Wi-Fi connection in order to sync your contacts. Make sure your phone is connected to the internet. You may need to switch from cellular data to Wi-Fi or vice versa.
  3. If you didn’t allow Viber to access your contacts when you first set up the app, it won’t be able to sync with your phone’s Contacts app. Here’s how to check (and change) the permissions:
    • On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings > Apps > Viber . Tap Contacts under the ALLOW VIBER TO ACCESS header. Select either Full Access to grant access to your entire contacts list, or Limited Access to sync select contacts.
    • On an Android device, go to Settings > Apps > Viber > Permissions . Tap Contacts and select Allow . [3]
  4. An out-of-date app might cause syncing issues. Try updating your app if the other methods aren’t working.
    • On an iPhone, open the App Store , tap your profile picture at the top right corner of the screen, and select Apps . Search for Viber with the search bar at the top. If you see an Update button next to the app, tap it.
    • On an Android , open the Play Store and tap your profile icon . Select Manage apps & device > Manage and tap Viber . If you see an option to update the app, tap Update . [4]
  5. Restarting can fix minor glitches, such as a lag in syncing your contacts. Try rebooting your phone, then open Viber again and see if your missing contact(s) show up.
  6. If you can’t get any of the other troubleshooting methods to work, you might be able to force the missing contact to sync by adding it to your phone again.
    • On an iPhone, open Contacts and tap and hold the contact you want to delete. Tap Delete Contact , then tap Delete Contact again to confirm. Add the contact back by tapping the + sign at the top right corner of the screen and filling out their information.
    • On an Android, open Contacts , then tap the contact you want to delete. Tap More â‹® at the top right side of the screen, then select Delete . Tap Delete again to confirm. Tap Add + on the bottom right side of the Contacts screen to re-add the contact.

    You have to go on your Viber contact list and press the Add icon at the bottom. It will then take you to a screen where you should insert the person's name and phone number. If the person has Viber, it should automatically appear on the Viber contact list.
