In Pokémon Sun and Moon, Wimpod is a small arthropod Bug/Water-type Pokémon that evolves into the Bug/Water-type Golisopod, which is the strongest Pokémon of Team Skull's leader, Guzma. However, catching Wimpod isn't as simple as going through tall grass and encountering it. This article will explain how to catch it.

Steps

  1. It's found on the beaches of Route 8, Poni Breaker Coast, and Poni Wilds. Depending on where you go to find it, it'll be between level 17 and level 43.
  2. It'll be found in areas with a grey-colored ground and a small hole nearby. You'll see it just standing around, until you get close, in which case it'll run away and try to go back to its hole.

  3. Go on your Tauros Charge and hold B while running to chase it. It'll try to run away, but as long as you don't hit any of the rocks in your way, you'll be able to catch it. After catching it, a red exclamation mark will appear above its head and you'll go into battle with it. If you don't catch it, exit and re-enter the area to respawn it. It may not end up respawning, in which case try again until it does.
  4. Unlike with most wild Pokémon, it's not as simple as weakening it and throwing a Poké Ball. Its ability, Wimp Out, makes it flee the battle if it gets below half health. Your best bet is to throw a Quick Ball at the start of the battle and hope it captures it. If that fails, weaken it a little bit, making sure its health bar is still green, then throw Poké Balls at it. If you're capturing it on Route 8, you can use Nest Balls for an easier capture.

  • Question
I've tried to catch Wimpod twice now and both times I killed it accidentally and now I go back every once and awhile and it's still not there. Is there a chance I could still catch it?

It re-spawns every 24 hours. Try again then, but don't reset your 3DS clock as it will then do it 24 hours after you reset your clock.
  • Question
Is there any quicker way of getting it, rather than waiting 24 hours?
    Community Answer
You could always go on the GTS to see if anyone has one. However, some people might want some outrageous Pokemon like a Palkia in return.
  • Question
    How does Wimpod evolve?
    Community Answer
Wimpod evolves from gaining exp until it reaches level 30. That's the level at which it evolves.

      Tips

      • You can also block Wimpod's way to the hole, so that it runs straight into you while trying to run away. It's harder to do than the suggested method, though.
      • If it's night, you can use Dusk Balls for an easier capture.
      • Have a Pokémon with False Swipe and a move that inflicts a status effect such as paralysis or sleep. This will make it easier to catch Wimpod. Just make sure that it doesn't get below half health, as explained in step 4.
