Dismantling is a useful way to get rid of items if your inventory is getting too full. It's also useful if you're almost broke, as it allows you to gain Glimmer or materials that you can use for other purposes. Dismantling will get rid of any dead weight.
Steps

Be sure that you want to get rid of the item before choosing to dismantle it. Once you dismantle an item, you can never get it back.

Press Start to view the character menu. Choose a category of equipment.Advertisement

Look through your equipment. Select the item you want to dismantle.

Press and hold 'X/Square' to dismantle the item. The slot will empty.

Collect the materials or Glimmer released by the dismantling. Done.Advertisement
