Method 1 of 5:

Basic Fried Pork Chops

  1. Choose either bone-in or boneless pork chops. The boneless chops tend to have less fat, but they aren't quite as flavorful. Bone-in chops are less expensive and release a lot of delicious flavor as they cook.

  3. Sprinkle both sides with salt and pepper. Add other seasonings like garlic powder or paprika if you'd like.
  4. Let the butter melt completely before proceeding. The pan should be nice and hot.
  5. Make sure none of them are overlapping. If you need to fry the pork chops two at a time because your pan isn't large enough for four, that's fine.
  6. If the pork chops are thicker than an inch, give them a bit longer.

  3. Pour it into the skillet and heat it over medium high. Let the pan get hot before proceeding.
  4. Use tongs or your fingers to dip it in the bowl so that the egg covers both sides.
  5. Make sure it gets completely coated.
  6. They're ready when they are deep golden brown.

  3. Again, make sure it's completely covered on both sides.
  4. If they are a deep golden brown color, flip to the other side.

Double-Breaded Pork Chops

    • For the second coat, use Italian breadcrumbs, or add herbs such as herbes de Provence to plain breadcrumbs.
    • If you have grated Parmesan cheese available, add it to the second coat.
  1. Using a fork, place each chop into the egg mixture, then into the flour mixture, coating well.
  2. This will create a thicker coating that is crunchy and lovely to eat. Kids especially like it.
  3. Cook until brown, around 3 to 4 minutes. Turn over and cook the other side for an additional 3 minutes, or until brown.

  • Question
Is the meat near the bone safe to eat on a pork chop if it's still pink?
    Brian Armstrong
    Community Answer
Pork will remain pink near the bone. But if you are worried about the doneness of said meat, have a food grade thermometer nearby. After cooking, stick a thermometer in the thickest part of the chop away from the bone, wait 30 seconds, and make sure its temperature is at minimum 145 degrees, or 165 degrees if you want to be absolutely sure.

      • Don't feel you have to follow any of these suggested recipes religiously. A good chef knows when to turn the meat, when to add spices. If you think an extra flavour would complement the dish, add it! Make sure not to over complicate the dish though; too much flavor is always overwhelming.
