  • Question
I have to wear a skirt at school, but at home I'm a tomboy. Does this make me a tomboy?
    Community Answer
Of course. If you feel like a tomboy, then you are one. It's not your choice to wear the skirt anyway, you're just following the dress code.
  • Question
Can I wear headphones or some ripped clothing as well to be tomboyish?
    Community Answer
Of course, as long as your school dress code permits it. That's a great way to add a tomboy touch.
  • Question
If I like to wear dark clothing and hoodies, does that make me a tomboy?
    Community Answer
Not necessarily. Lots of girls prefer dressing in more traditionally masculine colors/clothes. It kind of depends more on how you act, what you're interested in, etc.

A girl can wear dresses or skirts if she prefers to (or has to at school). The term 'tomboy' is a word outsiders try to put on a girl who does not prefer the more 'feminine' aspects of being female. However, girls don't have to conform to be feminine. Just be who you are.
  • Question
People keep saying I'm a tomboy because I wear dark clothing. Does that define me as tomboy?
    CageyCat
    Top Answerer
Of course not! That would be like saying all girls with black hair are tomboys, and all boys with blonde hair are sissies--- both are just silly! The term tomboy generally refers to liking rough and tumble activities, etc. Fifty years ago, tomboy also referred to girls who did not look or act 'feminine', such as not wearing frilly and lacy dresses. Today, just strive to be yourself and don't worry about these comments.
  • Question
Is it okay for a tomboy to wear skorts/skirts? My school doesn't require it, but the skorts and skirts are way more comfortable than the shorts/

You said the primary factor-- comfortable. Being "something" is not what's important. Being you is important (or should be important to you).

Yes, but really tomboy means whatever you want it to mean. Style yourself however you want, don't let labels define your personal style.
  • Question
What if your school wants you to wear a long skirt that reaches up to your legs? Can I wear a thin jacket? And also can I have a piercing? Can I also wear a beanie in school?

Check your school's uniform policy or dress code to determine whether you would be allowed to do these things. If you can't find a policy, ask a teacher.

Having male friends doesn't define your personal style. Feel free to make friends with people of any gender.
  • Question

Nothing is naturally 'girly' or 'boyish', so define yourself however you would like and wear whatever colors and styles you like for you.
