This is iMessage. To fix it, go into your settings and scroll down till you see the "messages" icon. Click on that and at the top will be an option to turn iMessage off. If you turn it off, this will fix your problem.

How do I block a contact number from texting me if they can call from an iPhone?

Press the little "i" button at the top right-hand corner and press the number (be careful not to accidentally call, message, or FaceTime them though). It should bring up options to either add to contacts, add to existing contact or block. Select "Block" and then delete the message. The number will not be able to contact you again via text, phone call, or FaceTime.

Yes, providing you are calling an iPhone. v12.3 iOS on an iPhone offers the option to block voice calls, texts (SMS) and iMesssage (end-to-end encrypted messages to another iPhone). Just blocking the respective voice number does just that--it blocks voice, but not text or message. You have to block all, if that's your wish.

If the text turns green, that means either the person you're texting doesn't have an iPhone, or the message was sent as a text message rather than an iMessage for some reason. This could be due to poor reception, someone else having iMessage turned off, etc.

The same way you block unknown text messages with no number. Put that soliciting text in your contacts and then add #0000000000. When it is added go to edit and tap the message then tap more and then tap it in the upper right corner and go down and tap block this number.
