  • Question
Is it possible to build a small one from my house to a neighbor's house? My kids want one, but I am on a budget.
    Community Answer
It would be possible, but very difficult if you were planning to do it underground. What I would recommend is building a tunnel between your backyards by cutting a hole in the fence, or maybe digging a small one under the fence.
  • Question
How long does it take to build a 500m tunnel?
    Community Answer
The Chunnel (between England and France) was built at a rate of 12 cm (5 inches) per hour. Based on that, one could excavate roughly 3 meters in a 24-hour period. A 500-meter tunnel could conceivably be constructed in 4,167 hours. Working 24 hours a day, it would take you 174 days to complete your tunnel. This is just under half a year, or 5.8 months. Working 10 hours per day, it would take you 417 days, or 14 months. And working only 8 hours per day it would take about 520 days or 17 months. If this is a weekend project, it will take you years and years to do it.

How long does it take to build a tunnel?
    Community Answer
It depends on how hard you work, the tools you have, the length of the tunnel and the terrain you are building it through.
  • Question
How do I navigate under the ground?
    Community Answer
A laser and a light detector are used to make straight lines. Then you can use a protractor to make an angle to turn.
