If your wedding gown has a train, adding a simple American bustle will allow you to move freely after the wedding without worrying that guests will step on the train while you're greeting, dancing, or walking.

With a partner, try on your gown and raise the train to the desired length from the floor. Pin the train into place. Add buttons to the waist, then sew strong thread in a chain stitch to the train portion of the stitch. Secure it with a knot underneath.
  • Question
How do you bustle a small train on a fitted formal with a slit down the left leg. The dress will be worn in a presentation of senior girls followed by a dance.
    Community Answer
The best bustle for this dress would be the one-point overbustle.
  • Question
How do I make a bustle that the bride wants to have around her wrist?
    Community Answer
You can sew an elastic loop to it, or sew the middle of a length of ribbon to it to tie around her wrist.
  • Question
How do I attach loops to the outside of a dress to attach to covered buttons already on the dress?
    Community Answer
Loops need a hole. Depending upon the fixture of the loops (which can be single, double or any other amount), you can make an entire circular border secured with a neat stitch. Since it will go on a plain part of the dress or the hem, it should not be stitched too tightly or it will pull unevenly once done. Practice attaching on cut parts of this dress to see how it will look or try on any other fabric piece by piercing a hole, holding the loop in place making sure it falls on the buttons just right, and sewing it.
