I've been told that Hotmail is old school now (I have a Hotmail account). What am I supposed to change to? Will that become "old school" in a couple of years?

It's true that Hotmail is not as popular as it used to be, and that what is or isn't popular changes with time. But as long as the email service still works and isn't causing problems, you shouldn't have to change it. Hotmail is still a widely-known email service provider. That being said, if you're still looking for a more popular, newer email service provider, Gmail is your best bet.

I need an email for a non profit group where the receivers are not shown. Is there an easy way to this without using the BCC for every e-mail?

Use Google Groups. Participants will have more options if they set up an individual account, but it's not necessary if they just want to receive emails. You can set it up so everyone or only certain people can send to the group.

What email provider will not read my mail? Google does read anything it can to find out information on us. Is Hotmail run by Google too?

Microsoft is behind Hotmail. If you want privacy, choose a company that respects it. Choose Tutanota, Protonmail (both have free options), Mailfence, Posteo, to name a few. But remember; when you send an email to a receiver that uses Gmail, Outlook, Hotmail, or other tech giants' services, these companies can see what you sent.
