  • Question
There is fine debris collecting on the bottom of my pool that is too fine for the vacuum, but is being picked up by the pool filter system. Do you have any suggestions?
    Community Answer
You are using the wrong type of vacuum. If it's picked up by the filter system, backwash the filter.
  • Question
How long do you backwash for weekly cleaning?
    Community Answer
Until the sight glass on the multiport goes clear, then rinse for 5 seconds before going back to the filter.
  • Question
How much pool shock Ph1 and chlorine should I put?
    Community Answer
Work out the volume of your pool and read the dose rate instructions on your chemicals. Buy a scale to measure out correct amounts if you need to, and never dose directly into skimmers. Also, don't add 2 different chemicals at the same time.
  • Question
What is the best solution for a powder like substance on the bottom of my pool? I vacuum and it clears up, but it is back again the next day.
    Community Answer
Change filter medium and inspect or replace laterals if needed. Look for local dust production from neighbors, and cover pool in between uses.
  • Question
How often should a pool be cleaned?
    Community Answer
Once a week as a general rule.
  • Question
How do I clean all the dirt on the pool floor if I don't have a pool vacuum?
    Community Answer
If the filter is not working, you can try taking a leaf skimmer to large debris. It's easier to just get a vacuum for the smaller sediments.
  • Question
After attaching the vacuum, then what do I do regarding the controls?
    Community Answer
If your pool is really dirty, set the vacuum to waste (drain). You will have to replace lost water when complete. Under normal maintenance, you can just vacuum through filter.
  • Question
How do I clean the green sediment from bottom of the pool? Every time I try, it gets cloudy.
    Community Answer
When you vacuum the pool, go very slowly and make sure you are pumping the vacuum. If you vacuum the filter, the algae will pass through the filter as it is so small and it will be blown back into pool through the return and it will cloud the water.
  • Question
My pool is not green, but it has debris on top. There are cotton wood trees nearby so I am constantly skimming. But it's like nothing is going into the baskets, just staying on top of pool. What can I do?
    Community Answer
Adjust valves if you have any to have more water go through the skimmer than the drain or other places.
  • Question
If my pool is very clear but the pH level is high, do I put in pH minus or acid?
    Community Answer
If the pH is high, you'll need to add a base (pH minus) to bring the levels of pH down. If the pool becomes cloudy, it should simply respond to a few gallons of pool shock.
  • Question
My pool water is clear, but the bottom of the pool looks splotchy and brown. Brushing has not helped. How can I clean it?
    Community Answer
You can buy a vacuum from the pool store.
  • Question
How can I get the tile and grout clean without having to scrub it several times?
    Community Answer
Sand blasting the tile will completely remove any calcium buildup or stains.
  • Question
I do not have any pressure, what do I do?
    David Attard
    Community Answer
If the flow to pool is good, the filter is working good. If flow is low, it will need a backwash. In any case, backwash should be done ever week or 2 weeks on sand filters.
  • Question
What do I do if the sides of my pool are brown in patches?
    Community Answer
The brown you see is most likely dead algae. Try using a brush with stiff bristles designed for pools and attach that to a telescopic pole. Then sweep with an up and down motion. It will normally be easy to do in tiled pools, but in concrete pools, the algae may stick to the side. After sweeping it down, wait for it to settle, then use your pool vacuum to suck it up.
  • Question
My pool volume is about 20,000 gallons and the water is clear but my pH reading never exceed 6.5 pH daily. I use about 250 mg of soda ash daily but still pH didn't go up. What should I do?

    Community Answer
It is likely you’re using Trichlor or Dichlor chlorine. Both of these products are very acidic thus they’re pushing your pH down. If the pH is this low, take quick action as you’re damaging your pool's equipment and surface.
