  • Question
I'm doing what you said but no picture is showing on the TV, it keeps saying "no signal." What do I do?
    Rudy Toth
    Community Answer
Some HDMI cables are compatible and some are not at all compatible. You might need to do a lot of switching to get a "signal" from one device to the other. If you have cable with HDMI inputs and outputs then you would use the supply HDMI cables from the cable company. Older versions of TVs don't have the HDMI inputs outside of the coax jack. Your cable runs to the cable box and your HDMI cable runs from the other side of the cable box to your HDMI input connector on your TV. You might need to adjust your TV settings to get that "signal" working.
  • Question
My laptop has the VGA port but the TV has the HDMI instead. I’ve connected a cable but there’s still no display on the TV. I followed the same approach suggested too.
    Rudy Toth
    Community Answer
You just can't connect a VGA port to a HDMI since that can never work. It has to be HDMI to HDMI and VGA port to another VGA port.
  • Question

  • Question
I have an older version maxent TV. It has no HDMI ports. It has VGA or RGB ports. How do I connect to DVD player with the HDMI port and get sound and picture?
    Rudy Toth
    Community Answer
You just can't do that operation at all. If the TV has no HDMI ports, then you need to replace your TV with a more modern and newer model with HDMI ports. Read the specifications at the store before your purchase. Then you need to get the HDMI cable to connect to your DVD player and add a video to your settings on your new TV to "switch" over from cable to HDMI1 or 2.

    Rudy Toth

Some TVs when they are unplugged for many hours or days have a tendency to run back to the default on all settings, taking it back to the default of being new from the box. You'd need to reset it up as if it were new.

i've hooked up a Fire Stick to my TV and it works great, except how do I go back to my regular channels? I just get static, no picture. I'm on an outdoor antenna. I had no problem going from the antenna.

It's that setting in your TV between (some state) "Air" being for Outdoor Antenna and "Cable" for the other stronger receptions. Some other stronger devices can change your TV settings to be permanent.
  • Question
I have connected the HDMI to both my TV and cable box but I cannot turn the TV on and off or control the sound. I can change channels. What have I done wrong?
    Rudy Toth
    Community Answer
Most of new versions of cable boxes in recent years have upgraded to a more advanced level. One side runs the cable and the other side of the same digital box is where the HDMI port is. Each newer TV has "settings" that control between two or more "signals" and the sharpness, contrast, to the audio mixer EQ audio slides, to the time and date also. Check your TV manual for reference. You might need to replace the remote's batteries too.

  • Question
I have old TV with no cable box (don't want one.) Trying to connect TV so that I will get local channels only. It is plugged in and coaxial is attached. But still getting no signal.
    Rudy Toth
    Community Answer
That's the problem in the digital world of today's standards. You can't anymore use rabbit's ears to get a local reception and most chain stores don't sell them anymore. Local channels have a specific transponder signal that only cable companies can have that access. In today's world, you need to let go of the old TV and coax wire antenna thing to get a cable box to get local channels. On the flipside, there's one more device that you can use? Its a digital signal receiver that attaches to your window and the wire goes into your coax jack to receive free TV signals up to a 100 mile radius.

I have upgraded from a Samsung low res to a Samsung 1080 HD TV. I transferred the cables but when I used the new TV setup and scanned for channels, only 3 channels were found. What should I do?
    Aditya Telang
    Community Answer
Newer TV's cannot display channels. You can only select the source. It is the set-top box which shows all the channels. Check your HDMI connection from the box and select the correct source on the TV. You can ask the help of the set-top box installer to help you set it up properly if you continue experiencing difficulties.
  • Question
If I connect my TV to home theater, no sound is transferred to the home theater. What is wrong?
    Aditya Telang
    Community Answer
Most of the time it is as simple as a cable coming loose or the speakers not being switched on. The cable may also be damaged, or you may have selected the wrong source. If you check all of this and everything's in order, see if your home theater works from other sources. If it does, then there may be an issue with the TV output. If it doesn't, then there may be an issue with the home theater.
