It really depends on the length of your hair, the thickness of your hair, and the length of the extensions. It could be as short as an hour if you are very skilled and have fine hair, or it could take much longer.

A flat twist is like a Senegalese twist except that it runs along the scalp like a cornrow. They are a great way to incorporate short hairs or layers into a braid.

This depends on your skill level, hair density, hair length, and the thickness of the braids. Someone very skilled may be able to complete a full head of box braids in an hour, others may need much longer.

I would recommend redoing the twists every month or so. They will probably last longer, but they won’t look as polished after 4 to 6 weeks.
  • Question
How do you curl the bottom of the twist?
    Community Answer
Buy perm rods in the right size for the curls you want, and roll the hair the direction you want around the rods and dip the ends in hot water. Once you take out the rod then the hair should curl. They're usually around $3 a bag. If you want more curls then put 4 to 5 twists on each perm rod. Don't use flexirods or regular rollers because they will burn from the high heat.
  • Question
    How do you add color?
    Community Answer
Buy the colored hair of your choice. If you want red hair, buy red extensions. If you want brown, buy brown extensions.
  • Question
Do I have to use extensions?
    Anxious ball of fire

No. If your hair is long enough, you do not have to. Only use them if you feel it's necessary.
  • Question
After washing my Senegalese twists, can I blow dry them and then treat them?
    Community Answer
Yes, you can blow dry them, but be sure to use heat protectant to protect your hair.
  • Question
How long does the process generally take?
    Community Answer
It will take about 6 to 8 hours at a salon, maybe less, and probably about 10 to 12 hours if done on your own. If you work on them for 3 hours a day, they'll be done in 2-3 days.

I have box braided many times and each time it only took from 2 to 4 hours, but that depends on how many breaks you take, how quick a braider you are, and how much hair you have.
