    Expert Answer
In hot weather, prioritize natural fibers like cotton and linen with minimal synthetic blending for comfort. Opt for clothing with ample movement and breathability to enhance comfort in hot and dry climates. Choose dresses and skirts with flowing designs, avoiding anything that might constrict, such as tight waistbands or under-bust elements, as these can attract and retain sweat.
  • Question
What should I pack for a trip to the desert?
    Community Answer
Bring light layers and light-colored clothing, sunglasses, a water bottle and plenty of sunscreen.
  • Question
What is the weather like in the desert?
    Community Answer
Deserts are, by definition, dry and arid, receiving very little rainfall. In the summer, deserts tend to be very hot during the day, although they can be very cold at night depending on the location. In the winter, they can be cold even during the day. Long sleeves are a must, regardless of season, as the risk of sunburn is very high.
  • Question
Aren't "Cotton shirts are your best bet" and "Avoid all-cotton socks, which keep moisture close" contradictory?
    Tom De Backer
    Top Answerer
In fact, the advice is sound. You don't put sunglasses on your knees to protect them from getting sunburned. Around your torso, the cotton can be worn lightly, allowing your body to 'breathe'. Around your feet and ankles, cotton socks are stuffed and squeezed, reducing their breathing effect to almost zero.
  • Question
    Why are they called deserts?
    Community Answer
The word "desert" comes from the Latin "desertum," which means "thing abandoned."
