    Soak your fabric in soda ash or baking soda. You have to open the fabric fibers to the pigment and then soak the color in. Leave the pigment for an hour or so, then set in cold water with a delicate rinse.

    Does soaking fabric with baking soda and water before dyeing work on t-shirts?

    No, you need sodium carbonate like Arm & Hammer super washing soda. Mix one cup per gallon of water and let soak a minimum of 15 minutes, being sure there are no air bubbles in the fabric. Remove the fabric and wring out excess solution. Do not rinse out. (It must be a natural fabric for this to work.)
