Yes, but you'll have to wait until the dark brown hair color gradually fades. It can take a few weeks to a couple of months depending if you were to use a semi-permanent hair color compared to a permanent color.

    Expert Answer
If your hair is ginger or anything darker such as brown or black, it will be challenging to dye it aqua without bleach. Putting an aqua dye on ginger hair may turn the hair a reddish-violet shade.
  • Question
Would it be difficult to dye naturally red hair a dark teal color?
    Community Answer
I did it with a semi-permanent, it looked amazing, and lasted for three weeks. It might have lasted much longer, but I didn't leave the dye in long enough. Try Manic Panic, just be careful not to get it on anything you don't want to be permanently blue.
  • Question
Would I be able to dye my naturally ginger hair purple without using bleach?
    Community Answer
You could, but the color might come out less vibrant, and won't stay in as long.
  • Question
What colors are best for natural red heads?
    Community Answer
The best colors are ashy tones, they keep the gingery pigment covered a lot better than glossy shades. A bright ginger should opt for an ash blonde, or if a darker shade of red, a more brownish-chestnut shade.
  • Question
If I died my naturally red hair black, would it affect the roots in any way as it grows back in?
    Community Answer
No, the dye shouldn't affect your roots.
  • Question
Would I be able to dye my naturally ginger hair a bright red without bleach?
    Community Answer
Yes, I’ve done it and it worked really well! I used a very dark red and it came out looking great.
  • Question
What should I do if unnatural colors won't show up on my ginger hair?
    Community Answer
You could bleach your hair -- they would definitely show up then! Just don’t bleach too often, and only bleach your hair when it’s been about a month since you last dyed it (especially if it’s been dyed with reddish tones).
  • Question
Could I dye my dark ginger hair ash blonde with no bleach?
    Community Answer
You could, but it might still look a little ginger. Bleaching first will give you the best results.
  • Question
What are good colours to dye your hair if I am ginger?
    Community Answer
You could dye your bangs a dark blue color and again in a bright pink. But if you're looking for something more natural, try bleaching your hair and dyeing it into the color of your choice.
  • Question
How do I stop the roots from showing my ginger hair after dying it?
    Community Answer
You just have to keep filling them in. Your hair grows from the roots, so it's going to show. There are products specifically for fill-ins that work pretty well.
  • Question
If I dye my hair black, will my ginger hair grow back its natural color? Will it be a bit faded?
    Community Answer
Your hair should grow back in the exact shade that it was before.
  • Question
What are some unnatural shades I can dye the ends of my hair if I am a light haired ginger?
    Community Answer
Pink is always a nice look because with a warmer color the transition from the ginger is smoother. But also there is no single right answer: Dye it whatever color you want!
  • Question
How do I successfully dye my hair from ginger to silver?
    Community Answer
Number one: don’t try it at home. bleaching ginger hair often leaves orange undertones and getting to silver with box dyes is very hard to do at home.
