It's definitely a bit of a nightmare. For whatever reason, every manufacturer seems to be working with different templates and sizing requirements in mind, so you end up with a ton of variation from brand to brand.

It definitely takes a bit of trial and error, but I recommend that once you find a brand that fits you right, shop exclusively with that brand. Don't start wading out into unfamiliar territory and trying out all different kinds of brand names.

I think everyone needs to have at least one or two pairs of dark-washed jeans. They're just such a uniting factor in any outfit, and they're the perfect go-to option for a casual outfit.

Find a great pair of skinny jeans you love and find a size that fits your waist. Take them to a trusted tailor and have them fit to your legs. You can always make a pair of jeans smaller but you normally cannot make them bigger.

The yoke is a design term referring to a line that is usually found at the top of pants. In this case, it's normally on the backside of denim. Yokes serve an aesthetic purpose rather than a functional one.
  • Question
How do I know my jeans size?
    Community Answer
Jeans should always feel as comfortable as a second skin. Some brands run small, while other might be true to size or run large. It depends on the brand's marketing and customers. Unfortunately, this means you should always try jeans on before buying them (or make sure you can get easily refunded if you decide to buy and try at home).
  • Question
How do you wear jeans that don't have belt loops?
    Community Answer
If you want to wear a pair of jeans that don't have belt loops, then don't wear a belt with them. If you're most comfortable wearing belts with your jeans, then make sure to only purchase jeans that have belt loops.
  • Question
If I were to go shopping, why are most jeans straight rather than regular or loose fit?
    Community Answer
You might be seeing slim-fitting jeans (skinny, straight leg, etc.) a little more frequently than loose styles because they can be a little more popular and trendy. Looser, more relaxed fits are definitely out there, you may just have to try looking in clothing stores that are a bit less trend-focused.
  • Question
My height is around 5'3, and I have no curves. What type of jeans and what shades should I wear?
    Community Answer
Always wear high waisted jeans to give the illusion of curves. Wear bright colors, because dark colors hide curves while light colors show them off.
  • Question
What if I find most jeans either too tight and uncomfortable or unattractively baggy?
    Community Answer
A lot of people struggle with this; when you're trying on jeans and aren't having any luck, it's usually because you either don't like the way it looks or the way it feels. If you like the way slimmer jeans look but feel more comfortable in loose jeans, aim for somewhere in the middle. Since it seems like you like the cut of the slimmer ones, try that cut/style on, but a size or two bigger.
  • Question
I would say I am pear shape but my "fluffy" knees are hard to minimize. Is there a jean style you would suggest?
    Community Answer
Flare or straight legged jeans usually look amazing on pear shaped women. Flare jeans tend to flare at about the knee, and tend to minimize the shape of them.
  • Question
What type and color of jeans would go best with a halter top?
    Community Answer
Light colored halter tops look good with dark jeans, and darker tops look nice with lighter shades. Skinny and straight leg jeans are reliable picks. Let the top be the star of the outfit, not the jeans, and wear whatever makes you feel good.
  • Question
I have big hips but long legs. What type of jeans would you recommend?
    Pinkskates
    Top Answerer
Try skinny jeans if you would like to show off your wide hips, and cropped flare styles if you’d like to minimize them.
  • Question
What if you are short? I have an hourglass figure but I am only 5'2'' 118lb and I feel like flared jeans don't elongate my legs but in fact make me look more stumpy. Any advice?
    Pinkskates
    Top Answerer
Only buy clothes that make you feel comfortable. I would suggest trying high waisted jeans to elongate your legs and stretch denim with long inseams.
