Don't pick at an ingrown hair. Sometimes people get bumps after waxing due to a histamine reaction. However, they're usually ingrown hairs or folliculitis, and it's important not to touch or pick at them. Picking at the area can cause irritation and can spread infection. It can also lead to scarring.
  • Question
I got it waxed a week ago and I have bumps all over my back. I'm about to get married, how can I cure it quickly?
    Community Answer
What worked for me is applying "Fair n Lovely" (fairness cream) like paste all over the affected area. Don't rub it into the skin, and let it dry. Repeat 2-3 times per day and the bumps should disappear. Applying coconut oil may also help.

    Community Answer
Mix the Indian Aztec healing clay with normal water or rose water. Apply the paste to the area until dry (15-20 minutes) and rinse off with cool water. Apply a normal cream that has been working for you. Use ice wrapped in cloth if it is red and itchy. Continue this method for a week. Do NOT mix the clay mask powder with apple cider vinegar.

It is very normal after waxing - it can give you a tender feeling. Right after waxing, put an after shave ointment on so it won't irritate you as much.

Sitting in warm bath water (a "sitz bath") will help reduce pain and itchiness. Do not use soap or any bath additive because it will burn and irritate. Repeat sitz bath several times a day. Call a pharmacist to ask for a recommendation of a mild protective ointment or try a first aid abrasion ointment. Do not put near or inside the vagina. It can be used on the mons (fatty pad on pelvic bone) and both sides of the outer labia. If no relief in a couple days, see a doctor at an Urgent Care facility. Don't be embarrassed; this is a common issue.
