I am going on a beach vacation. Should I consider doing this on the beach?
    Community Answer
Sure, feel free to do this wherever you like!
  • Question
How do I know where to start if I live in a small town?
    Community Answer
You can check geocaching.com, where you can find a map of the caches in your area. On the main page top bar, click on "Play," then "View Map." It is free to start an account, and then you can download coordinates to your GPS or download the free app onto your phone (iOS or Android).
  • Question
How do I get the information I need to my GPS unit?
    Community Answer
You can use a USB cable that will plug into your GPS unit and upload the coordinates. You can also enter them manually.
  • Question
    Are maps available for purchase?
    Community Answer
No, because caches change all the time. Some are taken down, others are put up or moved, so there are no physical maps; it would be impossible to constantly keep them up to date. However, on the geocaching website there is an updated map you can always use to find any geocache. You do need to make an account first, though. If you really have a thing for physical maps, you could print it, I suppose.
  • Question
I how do I set up a cache?
    Cloudysky1562
    Community Answer
You set up a cache by getting a waterproof, lock tight container. Get a piece of paper to be the logbook, put some SWAG (Stuff We All Get or trading items) into the container and seal it. Find a location that is 528 feet away from other caches and place it. Register the name and coordinates on geocaching.co m and you're done!
  • Question

    Community Answer
Yes! It’s not against the rules, and there are multiple caches that have money ready to be taken.
  • Question
I would like to leave a small trinket in a cache and ask the next cacher to take it, drop it off in another cache (far away), and send an e-mail with the new location. Is that OK?
    Blink
    Community Answer
If you want, you can purchase a Travel Bug in order to make it a trackable item.
  • Question
How to fine or detect something in the house using geocaching?
    Blink
    Community Answer
You cannot use the geocaching site to log things that are in your house. Geocaches are public, so if someone sees it, they may come to find and log the cache. If you want to keep track of things in the house, consider getting a device that can do that.
