How do I hit a helicopter shot in cricket?

To hit a helicopter shot one must have a tight grip on the handle. This shot works best for a Yorker (ball pitches closer to the batsman). The batsman must swing the bat mostly towards straight, mid-on or mid-off direction such that he rotates his bat, pushing the ball forward. He must swing his bat fully in a circular manner and land it back in his crease. This is an excellent lifted shot as it generates more power to carry the ball for a longer distance. Former Indian captain M.S Dhoni specialized in this type of shot.

As you're a right-handed batsman, your right hand will be your bottom hand while your left hand will be on top. Aggressive batsmen are mostly bottom handed players, meaning they use their bottom hand to provide power to the shot. Try to keep the palm of your right hand not in direct contact with the handle, that'll allow you to hit the ball in all areas. Gripping the handle on the lower side will give you more control while gripping on the higher side will allow to hit more powerful shots. Try to get something between the both, so that you can get both power and control over your shot. Overall, you will need to play cricket and realize yourself what suits you and develop that as your style.
