  • Question
What is the best possible OS for hosting a server like this?
    Community Answer
For this guide, it would probably be Windows. But for a real dedicated server, my opinion would be using a Command-Line Linux OS with Java Runtime installed, that way most of the RAM and CPU Resources are dedicated to people on the server rather than OS GUIs that players will never see.
  • Question
What do I enter into the "Direct Connect"? Do I put in my IP address, a colon, then the port number 25565?
    Community Answer
You only need the IP address. Ports are specific to the program; Minecraft knows its own port number.
  • Question
How do I get the Minecraft server file to run? It opens as number files/folders.
    Community Answer
I personally recommend using Blockman Multiplayer for MCPE, if you use PE. That lets you easily create a server. You'll just have to open up a new world in Minecraft and then go to Blockman Multiplayer for MCPE and turn it into a server.
  • Question
What do I do if I click on server.jar and the program flashes on the screen but nothing else happens?
    Community Answer
You have not accepted the eula in the eula.txt file. Open that file (it is in the same place as your server.jar file... just double click it). If you read the text that opens, it tells you exactly what to do, which is to change the word "false" in text below to "true" and save the file ("File", then "Save" from the notepad menu). Once that is done, the server will launch properly.
  • Question
When I went on the website, it said I had to pay to port forward. Is there any free port forward website?
    Community Answer
Re-follow all the steps to try and fix the error. Then, if you still get an error, you may have fallen on a premium host's website.
  • Question
You can use windows file explorer to unzip .ZIP files, but just in case, where can I get a free version of WinZip?
    Community Answer
Do not pirate WinZIp, as that is illegal. WinRAR has a 40 day 'trial' that never ends and 7 zip is completely free, so consider those alternatives.
  • Question
How do I run an older version of Minecraft on this?
    Community Answer
Go to mcversions.net, where you can download older versions of the Miencraft server Jar, including 1.12.2. If you want to run a modded server, just extract the Forge server files to your server directory.
