Not really, but you must be aware that a 220V line has two hot wires. Always make sure the breaker is off and connect the two hot wires to the proper terminals, which are usually labeled with X and Y. Also make sure the connections are snug.

How do I know which circuit breaker is odd or even, as there are red wires on both odd and even?

The main circuit breaker panel box is made so each circuit breaker next to each other is on a separate line. So each breaker next to each other is a 110 circuit, making a 220 circuit when combined together on a double throw circuit breaker.

How do I replace my older 220 volt wire?

If it's in a basement or crawlspace, you'll have to remove and reinstall the staples along the wire. If it's under a slab and a short run, then you may just be able to pull the new wire through. You may have to run the new 4-wire cable into the ceiling.
