  • Question
How do I differentiate major from minor scales?
    Hanna Budrala
    Community Answer
Major scales sound happier, while minor scales sound sadder and more mysterious. If it doesn't help, then try and play the arpeggio of the scale (1st, 3rd, 5th and 8th note from the specific scale); see if that works to differentiate the 2 scales. Basically, major scales have a major third between the 1st and 3rd note in the scale, while minor scales have a minor third.
