How can I make sure that my cuff remains aligned?

If you pin before sewing, your cuff will stay in place. Place a straight metal sewing pin (not a needle) through all layers of material you want to affix, fold the material, and pin all the way back through, so that both ends of the needle are on the same side of the fabric. A small amount of metal should be visible on the back. Safety pins can be used in a pinch, but these may ruffle your cuff slightly. Remove the pins carefully after stitching to avoid pinpricks.
