    Use of glue, especially one that is waterproof, could cut down the rose scent. A little beeswax mixed in would help hold the petals together and still maintain the rose scent.

    A baking sheet pan or an inexpensive foil cookie pan is an easy substitute. The metal surface holds heat from the sun and provides even heat to the items being dried. Foil wrapped over a tray will also work. Having a lip can prevent items from sliding and falling off.
