I have an older Dell Inspiron with a WiFi adapter (FreedomPop-U-250) that plugs into the USB. I presently have a whip antenna that plugs into the U-250. It's about the size of a headphone jack. Any way to make this work with antenna?
    Community Answer
Look up what type of connector it is. I'm guessing from your description it is an SMA, but don't take my word for it. From there, you can purchase or make a pigtail connector and make it work by using the directions in this article to build a cantenna. Also, be sure you are using a WiFi card for this, I looked up the adapter and it comes up as a 3G/4G adapter. 3G and 4G use different frequencies from WiFi. I trust that you are using a WiFi adapter, because my results weren't clear.
  • Question
    How well does this work?
    Community Answer
VERY. I can usually pick up wifi signals from my nearest Starbucks which is a few blocks away.

Will rain or storms disturb my signal?

If you are using it indoors, rain or thunderstorms shouldn't interfere much with the signals you are sending or receiving. If you are using it during rainy or stormy weather outdoors, then it may disrupt the signals sent or received. It all comes down to where you want to place it and the purpose of it. If you're using it for WiFi boosting, I recommend you keep it indoors and point the mouth of the can towards the area where you don't have a signal.
