I committed a slightly mortal sin and I feel horrible for it. I don't feel worthy of love or forgiveness; I feel distanced from family, but not comfortable enough to talk to them about it.

There is only one unforgivable sin, and that's blaspheming the Holy Spirit. I'm sure you haven't done that, or you wouldn't even be worried about it. Whatever it is that you've done, no matter how bad you think it might be, take it to God. It's not near as bad as you think it is, believe me. God can forgive anything. Jesus died for our sins. I assure you that I am all too familiar with feeling unworthy of love or forgiveness for the things I've done. Actually, none of us deserve forgiveness, that's why Jesus died for us. We all sin. Sometimes we do some really big sins. But Jesus still intercedes for us. God bless you.
  • Question
If I have not committed a mortal sin, why do I feel guilty?
    Community Answer
It's normal to feel guilty after committing a sin. You've done something wrong/against your morals, and you now feel bad for doing so. Pray for forgiveness from God, and then bring yourself into a mindset where you are ready to forgive yourself for sinning.

  • Question
I repented from my sinful ways and I've been going good, but I mistakenly went back and I feel so guilty. What can I do?
    Community Answer
Don't be too hard on yourself; we're only human, and we all falter from time to time. What's important is that you're on the right track. If your church offers penance, you should do that and confess your sins. Asking God for forgiveness is the best way to have a cleaner soul, and continue trying to better your ways.

God can forgive for he is the forgiver of all sins. The only sin that is unforgivable is blaspheming the holy spirit.
