Can I program a car that only has one working key?

If it is a GM vehicle, most likely. Insert your working key into the ignition and turn it on. Wait for the security light to go out. Quickly remove the key and insert your new programmed key. Turn the ignition on and wait for the security light to go out. Your key is then programed. This technique only works on GM cars which do not use the VATS system, though.

My 2001 Ford Expedition will not crank. I am using the original key that I have been using, and my mechanic says it won't turn over because the key is not communicating with the car computer. Any ideas?

Older Ford vehicles that utilize the "Pats" system are known to have this issue. The chip in the key is strong, but the antennas lose their strength. Begin by taking your key to a locksmith to have it scanned. If the locksmith is able to read the chip, the chip is good and is not the problem. Purchase a new antenna and plug it in. This should fix your issue.

YOU don't. It is impossible for you to program your own Mercedes key with out purchasing thousands of dollars in specialized equipment. If you are able to locate an Eeprom Automotive Locksmith, they have the ability to program your Mercedes key. If there is not one near you, you can remove your ignition and ship it to one to have the key electronically added. If this is not possible, the dealer is your only option.

If you have an "info" button in your Uplander, press and hold it until you see "Learn remote" displayed. You may then press and hold a button on the remote until you hear the car beep indicating the remote has been learned. If there is no info button, there is no onboard programming and you must take it to a locksmith for programming.
