Yes, but only if the SD card you have is a MicroSD. I use an old MicroSD with an adapter for my 3DS. Just follow the steps above on your mobile device and it should work just fine. Otherwise you'll have to do it on a computer.

If you have a desktop, follow the same steps. If you have a phone or other mobile device with the ability to read SD cards through the use of an integrated port (most mobile devices with said ports tend to only be able to read micro SD cards, in this case a micro SD to SD card adapter will be needed) or an adapter. With mobile devices, you will need to use the devices file system to transfer the music files onto the card. It is easier to use a PC than a mobile Apple device because iOS devices prevent you from putting iTunes songs on external storage devices.
