How do you put in a swirling type of nose ring?

Take yours out, put the hoop in, and then bend it to the hoop position. Make sure when you are doing it you have someone around in case something happens, and when you bend the hoop, make sure your hands are clean and that you wash them before taking the piercing out, so it doesn't get infected.

I recently switched my nose stud to a hoop; however, I feel like it created a different hole compared to when I put in a stud.

Sometimes when you take a piercing out, a thin layer of skin could cover the hole. You just have to push the ring or stud through it. But it is perfectly normal to feel that way when changing a piercing.

The hoop I have is regular but with a semi circle blocking, how would I put it in?

If it's a seamless hoop, you have to open and close it with pliers. If it is a semi-circle, start from the inside of your nose and slide the end that doesn't have the ball on it through the hole until the ball is on the inside.

Can I put a hoop in before a stud?

Yes, you can. Some piercing places may offer the piercing initially with a hoop. Personally, from experience, I recommend having it done with a stud first, letting it heal and then putting in a hoop just because there's less opportunity to catch it and possibly cause infection. But, if you are desperate and are in a position where you're likely to not catch it, then it can be pierced with a hoop.
