You can prevent some of this by using ice packs regularly during the first 36 hours. You can also manage the pain with over-the-counter medications, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) and ibuprofen (Motrin). If the pain is really severe, your surgeon may prescribe stronger pain medications.

While it's normal for blood clots to become dislodged, as long as you don't have any pain, you don't have anything to worry about. Just make sure you irrigate the socket carefully with saltwater, particularly after eating.

When you apply clove oil in the region of your dental pain, it will immediately relieve the pain. I also recommend applying an ice pack near the painful or swollen area. Ice helps reduce the swelling and temporarily numbs the area.
