  • Question
How do I secure the bottom molding first for a car window?
    Community Answer
Use a plastic or liquid rubber sealant product and spray evenly or use it on the bottom, then the sides (left then right always works for me), then the top (this time right then left).
  • Question
Will this cause damage to the interior trim?
    Community Answer
If a T-handled cut-out tool is used, then is shouldn't cause damage. Other methods carry more risk. If in doubt, remove A-post trims and any other items at risk.
  • Question
How long does it take to replace a windshield?
    Community Answer
It will usually take about 60 minutes to get it done. However, some places might be able to do it in 30 minutes.
  • Question
Would the roof molding trim need to be removed?
    Community Answer
In most cases, yes - along with any on the A-posts and possibly the lower scuttle panel, depending on the vehicle.
  • Question
Do I need to open a hood to replace a windshield?
    Community Answer
Technicians will usually open the hood to take off the wipers and the car's cowl hood if it has one. During the actual process of the windshield removal and replacement, the hood stays closed.
  • Question
Can replacing a windshield cause an electrical problem that could lead to a car not starting?
    Community Answer
If done correctly, it's unlikely. However, if not bonded correctly, water ingress could cause electrical damage. Some vehicles also have electronic components attached that would need to be carefully removed and re-installed. Vehicles with ADAS cameras may require caliberation after, depending on the manufacturer.
  • Question
What should I do if I replaced my windshield and the wipers aren't on correctly?
    Community Answer
Note the position of the far end of the wiper along the windshield. You will need this reference position to change from later when you reattach the wiper arm to the pivot shaft. Remove the nut that holds the wiper arm to the pivot shaft. Then, pull the wiper arm from the pivot shaft. The pivot shaft has splines much like the outside of a quarter to position the wiper arm along the windshield. Depending on the make and age of your car, you may have to use a puller of some sort to get it to break free. Don't use a pry bar or you could damage the paint/body or crack your windshield. (Some auto parts stores will loan tools for a deposit.) Reattach the wiper arm and re-tighten the pivot nut.
  • Question
Will this cause any damage to trim and body work?
    Community Answer
No significant damage to the bodywork should occur. Any bare metal found on the pinchweld after removal and cutting old urethane back should be treated appropriately. Trims will vary depending on the vehicle, and it is not always possible to re-use old trims and clips. Check prior to replacement, as some will need to be fitted at the same time as the windshield, as it also relies on adhesion to urethane.
  • Question
Can I use a windshield from another car model on my car?
    Community Answer
No. You need to look for a windshield from the same model and a compatible year.
  • Question
Can I use any Dodge windshield for a 2004 Dodge Neon?
    Community Answer
No, because even though the brand is Dodge, it doesn't mean that they are all universal.
