  • Question
Which chokes should I use in skeet?
    Community Answer
Usually Skeet/Skeet for over/under, which are .005" constriction chokes. Another common option is Cylinder/Skeet, which is .000" constriction/.005" constriction.
  • Question
What age can I shoot skeet?
    Community Answer
You can shoot skeet at almost any age, as long as you're properly trained and know what you're doing. If you're too young, it's best to bring a supervisor with you.
  • Question
How wide is the shotgun projection?
    Community Answer
It depends on the length of the barrel and the size of the choke. The shorter the barrel the wider the spread and the tighter the choke the tighter the spread. I would recommend a looser choke like one designed for dove.
  • Question
If I break both birds with one shot when the doubles are pulled, is there a bird established, or do they both have to be shot again?
    Community Answer
The first bird is established as dead; shoot the pair over. If you miss the first it is still counted as a hit.
  • Question
How do I calculate the lead?
    Community Answer
The amount of lead will vary from station to station, but all of them require lead. Station 4 would require the longest lead ahead of the clay, and it's often stated as 3 to 4 feet. The best description I can manage is "a lot". Your first hit on Station 4 is often a surprise simply because of the amount of lead that shot requires. Once you've nailed one on 4, the game gets a lot easier if you recognize how far ahead you had to be to get that hit.
  • Question
How do I know if I need to shorten the barrel of a gun when shooting skeet?
    Community Answer
28 inch is most popular for O/U guns, and 26 for autos. However, lately there have been more of the longer barrels showing up.
  • Question
What size of shot should I use, 7 or 8?
    Community Answer
Many clubs have a limit on the maximum shot size. No.7 1/2 or 8, (or smaller) is typical.
