    If you want to undo the knot, use a really sharp, thin knife to separate the string. But it should not be a problem to play the yoyo with a knot at the top. If it is small then just cut it off and it will be fine.

    YWhen winding it up, pin about an .5 inch piece of string to the side of the yoyo. Now you can start winding it. At the end there should be a loop of string hanging, but that's okay.
