    Expert Answer
The longevity of the curls depends on how long the set is left in, the products used to support it, and the size and placement of the rollers as well as the porosity of the hair and the weather. Generally a Velcro set will last a full day, but won't hold up overnight.

At least 10 minutes, but you can certainly leave them in longer for a stronger set- even overnight. I like to to heat them up slightly with a hair dryer and then let them sit for about 20 minutes.

The way you use rollers depends slightly on the type of rollers. All rollers should be wound into the hair on sections about the same size and shape as the roller using firm tension. Magnetic rollers are applied to wet hair, most other types are applied to dry hair with, but some, like velcro rollers, need hair spray to hold shape.

Heat them up, then roll dry hair onto them, using sections about the same width and diameter as the rollers. Pin and wait until completely cool, then unroll.

Yes, but you should use classic magnetic rollers, not velcro rollers. Velcro pulls too much for wet hair and could cause breakage.
  • Question
I have chin-length baby hair that's very fine. What size rollers are best to get some volume on top of my head?
    Community Answer
I would suggest going with jumbos and mediums. Specifically, I would use a jumbo (2" diameter) for your crown and mediums (1.5" diameter) for the rest.
  • Question
How do I keep the Velcro rollers from pulling out some of my hair?
    Community Answer
Fix them in place with long bobby pins, or wrap your head in a scarf. This will stop them from moving and pulling your hair while you're sleeping.
  • Question
Is there a way to do this with five little rollers and a lot of hair?
    Community Answer
I'm afraid not. But you could use straws to complete your rolling. YouTube it.
  • Question
What is the difference between self-grip rollers for dry, damaged, or color-treated hair and those for use on normal or thick hair, if both are the same size?
    Community Answer
Velcro rollers give you the option to not use pins to fix your hair to the roller, thus avoiding extra damage to already damaged hair.
  • Question
    Can guys use Velcro rollers?
    Community Answer
Of course they can if their hair is long enough. Hair is hair.
  • Question
How long do I leave them in?
    Community Answer
I would recommend around 6-10 hours, depending on your hair type. If your hair is very fine, it may take longer.
  • Question
    Can I pre-heat Velcro rolls?

No, this is not a good idea. The plastic on Velcro rollers is not meant to be heated, and you might melt your rollers!
  • Question
How do I stop my Velcro rollers from pulling my hair out?
    Community Answer
Use bobby pins to keep them in place or wear a hair scarf. This should stop them from pulling your hair out.
  • Question
Can I put them in when damp, blow dry them, and then remove them? Or does that not work?
    Community Answer
You can put rollers in damp hair, however, if you blow dry and they are not in tight enough, they will fall out.
  • Question
How do I get rid of hair that has stuck onto the Velcro roller?
    Community Answer
Reach into it and pull them out one by one with your fingers. It's a little slow but it works. Do it while watching TV, listening to music or just for something to meditate over.
  • Question
What size of roller should I use?
    Community Answer
It depends on how tight you want the curl to be. If you want loose curls, use a larger roller, and if you want a tighter curl, use smaller ones. Keep in mind that the smaller the roller, the more you'll need.
  • Question
Is it safe to sleep with Velcro rollers at night?
    Hannah Madden
    Community Answer
It's safe, but it might be a little uncomfortable. You only need to leave the rollers in for about 45 minutes, so sleeping in them might be overkill. It's probably easier just to take them out before heading to bed.
  • Question
Are Velcro rollers best to create lasting volume and curl on fine hair, or are heated rollers a better solution?
    Hannah Madden
    Community Answer
It depends on the hairstyle you're after. If you primarily want volume and bounce in your hair, then Velcro rollers are the way to go. If you're after tight curls or ringlets, then heated rollers will be better.
  • Question
Can people with curly hair use Velcro rollers?
    Hannah Madden
    Community Answer
Yes, you can use Velcro rollers if you have curly hair. However, you need to blow dry your hair straight before starting. That way, the rollers won't have lumps or bumps on them, and your hair will form perfect, glossy waves.
