Why do the videos played on my VHS player occasionally have horizontal lines flickering across the picture?

Unfortunately, this is due to the VHS deteriorating over time. There is usually a "tracking" button on the VHS player or remote, and clicking it should help reduce the lines.

When I insert the VHS tape, I can hear the audio but cannot see the picture. What am I doing wrong?

Check to ensure that your video in/out cables connecting your VHS player to the TV are plugged in correctly. Typically, you will see three cables: red, white/black, and yellow. Yellow is for video while the other two are for audio.

Several VHS tapes now play back extremely fast. How do I get them to play normally again?

Either the VCR is set to play at a faster speed, in which case, you can set it to play at normal speed. Or the tape was recorded at a slow speed to fit more on. In such a case, you still might be able to set the VCR to play back at normal (i.e. slower) speed.
