If you’ve kept a duvet cover on it and there's no obvious need for washing (spilled liquids for example), then you should not need to wash it more than once a year. Even then you may just spray it with vinegar and put it in the dryer to kill the dust mites and freshen it up.
  • Question
Can I wash my duvet inside the duvet cover?
    Community Answer
No, you will need to remove your duvet from its duvet cover in order to wash it. Follow the steps listed here to wash your duvet. Your duvet cover should be much easier to wash because it is smaller and doesn't contain down or down alternative filling like the duvet itself. You can usually wash the duvet cover in your home washing machine on a regular cycle. (Be sure to check the label for washing advice for your specific cover.)
  • Question
Can I wash my duvet in a 7 kg washing machine?
    Community Answer
No. Your duvet is heavier when water is added and it's more weighty when wet. Thus, if you force your duvet inside the 7kg washing machine, there no space for proper breathing while washing and the duvet will not be properly washed.

    Community Answer
Yes. You can hand wash your duvet carefully. After soaking for one hour, the stains also would have been soaked then it will be easy to wash. Moreover, you need a wide basin to hand wash.
