    Expert Answer
Depending on the pot size, you should water your succulents about every 2 weeks. If you have a larger plant, you can water them every 3-4 weeks. It's always better to underwater a succulent than to overwater it. Overwatering can kill your plant, but if it's underwatered, it will bounce back quickly when you hydrate it.
  • Question
Got two succulents for my office and put them under a light. Would they be alright?
    Idabelle
    Community Answer
It depends on the succulent. Trying getting a lamp that produces light similar to the sun, as that would be best for plants.
  • Question
I bought a variety of succulent cuttings and some had no roots. How do I plant them?
    Community Answer
You can allow the cuttings to dry for a few days in an empty tray until the raw ends have healed. Next, the cuttings can be rooted in soil or water. Once the stems have healed, fill a shallow tray with well-draining cactus/succulent soil and place the cuttings on top.

  • Question
I just realized I am overwatering and observed a white milky sticky residue developing on the tips of several succulents. Is my plant sick and dying?
    Addison Smith
    Community Answer
Try a few days or even weeks without watering it. Take the bad leaves off as well. This should help it to improve.

My nursery potted my succulent. She put rocks, then moss and a wire, then put the plant on top of the moss. How do I water it?
    Addison Smith
    Community Answer
You still water it the same as you would without the wire and moss. The water will go through to the plant.

I got succulents for Mother’s Day and planted them, but I now think I may have planted them in pots that are too deep. I used MiracleGrow potting soil. Should I repot them now after only a month?
    Addison Smith
    Community Answer
You don't have to repot them but you should use succulent soil if you decide to. They don't have to be potted deep either.
  • Question
How to tell if the succulents have been over watered?
    Addison Smith
    Community Answer
The leaves will start to rot and the soil might start to mold. Feel the soil, it should be damp and not soaked.
  • Question
What does it mean if leaves are falling from my succulent?
    Addison Smith
    Community Answer
It could just mean that the plant isn't getting enough water or it could also be getting too much water.
  • Question
Is it better to put my succulent outside, by a window, or somewhere like on my shelf where there is less light?
    Addison Smith
    Community Answer
It truly depends on the plant. Some of them need more light and some don't. You would have to figure that out depending on the type of succulent. Do some research.

  • Question
I have about 8 small succulents, can I put 4 together in a 6 inch pot?

  • Question
    Can succulents be put outside?
    Community Answer
Yes, they can. They will rarely need watering, but if you live in a dry climate, make sure to check in on them.
  • Question
Can you water succulents with spray bottles or should you use a watering can?
    SSSniperduck
    Community Answer
Whilst both are OK to use, watering cans are often the most efficient way of watering your succulents. If they are just seedlings and are incredibly small and could be harmed by even the slightest of water pressure/movement, a spray bottle is probably the best choice but other than that, water cans are a far better option. Keep in mind that these plants are very hardy.
  • Question
I recently purchased several small succulents. Should I consider them to be young because they are so small?
    SSSniperduck
    Community Answer
Not necessarily. Some succulents are just small and don't grow very big, no matter their maturity level. Others may have just been freshly picked and are a clipping of an adult plant, making them just small adult plants.
  • Question
What kind of indoor light does succulent need?
    Community Answer
It depends on the variety, but if you are not sure, put your succulent in indirect sunlight. This means that it isn't on a windowsill, more like in the middle of the room.
  • Question
I'm confused about sun requirements for succulents. I see some articles which mention direct sunlight, then others say "indirect sunlight". What is indirect sunlight exactly?
    Community Answer
Indirect sunlight is when you don't put the plant on a windowsill, but put it more towards the middle of the room.
  • Question
I put my succulent in the living room. Is it a good spot for it?
    Community Answer
As long as it is light for most of the day, it should be absolutely fine.
  • Question
I have knocked one of the thick leaves off my succulent plant, what can I do?
    Community Answer
Put the leaf on a pot of free-draining compost and use it as a cutting. The broken stump of the leaf on the plant won't grow back, but more leaves will grow from the centre of the plant.
  • Question
How to water the string of pearl? I have bought 5 plants and every time I water them they die. It seems that the water rots the pearls. I have used a syringe so the water does not touch the pearls.
    Community Answer
Dip the pot in a bowl of rainwater until it the soil is completely soaked. Wait until the top 2/3 cm of soil has dried out before doing this again. You might need to add more sand/ grit to your soil to improve the drainage.
  • Question
I have planted a succulent and a grafted cactus together, how often should I water them? And are there any other special care facts I need to know?
    Community Answer
Water them when the top 2/3 cm of soil feels dry. This is probably every two weeks. If you know what type of succulent/ cactus you have, research their particular care requirements.
