Your thread might be rotten. You need to rip out the seam and start over. If the thread keeps breaking, your bottom tension might be too tight, or the thread is old.

The notch on your spool may be wider than usual. Try turning your spool over so that the thread is coming off the spool in the opposite direction of your notch, which should keep it from catching.
