  • Question
Should I write my address on the back side of the envelope, or on the front side in the corner?
    Donagan
    Top Answerer
Both methods are commonly used, but upper-left corner on the front is best from the standpoint of postal efficiency.
  • Question
My shipping address: 7095 XXX Blvd #755. On the shipping label, should I leave #755 on the same line or use a separate line Unit / Lot #755? Making the shipping address 4 lines instead of three?
    Donagan
    Top Answerer
Both of those options will work, although including the unit number on the street line is preferred.
  • Question
How many sides of the parcel to write the address on?
    Donagan
    Top Answerer
You can place the mailing address on any or every side if you want, but it should definitely appear on the side where postage has been applied.
  • Question
Can a parcel return address have just the name and phone number instead of a main address?
    Donagan
    Top Answerer
No. The postal service does not deal with phone numbers. Use a name and address.
  • Question
Do I include the sender's address on the outside of a parcel being sent to the USA?
    Donagan
    Top Answerer
Yes. Always include a "return address" on any mail you send anywhere.
  • Question
Can I use multiple first names in the recipient's line?
    Community Answer
    Yes, that would be appropriate.
  • Question
Can we use paper and pen to write the label and is it okay to have both addresses in the same place?
    Donagan
    Top Answerer
Writing your own label is fine as long as it's legible. If you're using one label for both the mailing address and the return address, put the mailing address below the return address. Using "to" with the mailing address and "from" with the return address would also be a good idea. (Using two labels is a better idea: return address in the upper left corner, mailing address near the middle of the envelope or parcel.)
  • Question
For the return address, is it ok to just write your home address?
    Donagan
    Top Answerer
Yes, your home address is fine. Use the address to which you want the package returned if for some reason it cannot be delivered as addressed.
  • Question
If the seller had already paid for the shipping, and I write out the address, do I still have to pay for shipping when I drop it off at the carrier?
    Donagan
    Top Answerer
No, not if the package shows evidence that the shipping costs have been paid.
  • Question
Where do I place recipient's address on a box? Where do I place the return address on the box?
    Donagan
    Top Answerer
Choose the surface of the package most likely to be treated as the "top," and place the mailing address in the center of that surface. The return address should go near the upper-left corner of that same side (or the upper-left corner of the address label if you use one).
  • Question
Can boxes be wrapped in brown paper?
    Donagan
    Top Answerer
Yes. Be sure the paper's edges are covered with packing tape to prevent tearing.
