If you don't have access to a mobile phone, you can still send and receive texts using your computer. As long as you have a recipient's phone number and carrier, you'll be able to text them with your email account or with a free text website. Alternatively, you can use a messaging program such as Apple's Messages on Mac or Google Messages for Android. If you want to use a unique number, you can use Google Voice. This wikiHow will show you how to send texts using an email, website, and messaging program.

Yes. You will receive the message in your email inbox along with an attachment with the message.
  • Question
Will the person I am texting know the text is from me?
    Community Answer
If you are using Gmail or Hangouts, they should be able to see your name or username.
  • Question
How do I find out who the recipient's carrier is?
    Community Answer
You have to ask. If they don't know either, there're a couple of ways that they can find out. Unless the phone was bought "factory unlocked," the carrier's logo should be visible somewhere on the phone. They can also find out by looking in the phone's "Settings" menu under "About Phone" or "Device Information," etc.
