Find an accountability buddy
Friends, mentors, and colleagues are good people to reminder you to stay focused.
“Do you think you could call me once a week and ask me about my progress?”
“Can I send you some working drafts of my final essay each week for feedback?”
“Can you set deadlines for me to have each part of this project done?”
Find a role model
If you know someone who has completed similar tasks and goals, ask them about their journey and how they stayed motivated. This can be a former teacher, family member, friend, or acquaintance. If you choose a famous person (or known public figure) as a role model, read their success stories to learn how they kept themselves motivated.
“I’m currently working on a book and was wondering if you could share your experience writing your first novel?”
“I know you’ve had a successful career as an entrepreneur and I’m just wondering how you stayed motivated?”
“I’m trying to break into the same field and am wondering if you have any words of wisdom for me?”
Join a group
Look for groups at community centers, your local library, or online that are geared toward the nature of your goal or project. You can even gather some peers and start your own group. Here are some examples:
* Writing groups (for novels, essays, academic writing, and poetry)
* Running, biking, hiking, yoga, or meditation groups (for fitness and health)
* Study groups (for various subjects)
