We haven’t met before. I’m Lisa! I think we have a friend in common though—do you know Dave Smith? He’s in my chemistry class.
Hi, I’m Derek. Oh yeah, Dave is a friend of mine too! He’s a great guy.
I agree; everybody seems to like him. How did you two meet each other?
He helped me meet people when I moved here last month.
That was generous. He does seem to throw a lot of parties; those are a good way to meet people. Where did you live before you moved here?
I moved here from Boston.
That’s interesting—I’ve always wanted to visit that city! Did you grow up there?
I did! I was born there and I also grew up there. Spent 22 years in Boston.
I’ve heard the winters are so cold! I don’t know if I could handle the Boston weather. What was it like growing up there?
The cold winters were definitely challenging, but fall and spring are beautiful in Boston! The fall foliage is amazing.
I bet; I’ve heard that fall in New England in general is beautiful. So what else is there to do in Boston besides look at the leaves?
I’m really into sports, and the city has some great teams. I went to all the Red Sox games as a kid.
Oh, how fun! So was it a big adjustment moving from there to Seattle?
It was at first! Boston is really compact and I knew where everything was. Everything seems so spread out here! I’m still figuring out where everything is and I seem to get lost a lot!
Right, it can take a little while to get used to living here. When I moved here, I was pretty homesick at first. Are there things you miss about Boston?
I miss all of the great seafood restaurants!
That sounds delicious. I love seafood; I can’t get enough of it. I could eat oysters all day.
So could I; it’s my favorite kind of food. Boston is right by the water, so all of the restaurants had delicious fresh seafood year-round.
If I visit your hometown, can you recommend some places that I should check out?
Definitely grab a meal at Union Oyster House—the food is so good! It’s also the oldest restaurant in America. Cape Cod is fun to visit too.
That’s awesome—thanks for sharing! I’ll definitely check those places out if I ever visit.
Cool. You’ll have to let me know what you think!
Will do! I have an appointment to get to, but could I get your phone number? Maybe I can show you some of my favorite spots in the city this weekend!
Sure! I’ll type my number into your phone. I’m usually free on Sundays.
Here’s my email address. Friend me on Facebook and let’s catch up in the future!
Thanks—it was really nice meeting you, Lisa.
