November 11, 2011 Dear Mr. Hornby, I hope this letter finds you well. I am a 23-year-old university student majoring in Comparative Literature in Los Angeles, and I just wanted to say what a big fan I am of your work. I’m looking forward to reading your newest book when it comes out. Your novel, High Fidelity, got me through one of the toughest break-ups I’ve ever had, and I want to thank you for sharing that story with us. In some ways, I relate to both Laura and Rob in the story. Like Rob, I feel that my life can be summed up by the music I listen to. It is such an important part of life that I feel that it is in the very air we breathe. Sometimes, music creates avenues for us to explore our feelings and to voice out whatever internal pains we may have. Thank you for capturing what I already knew in such an eloquent manner. Currently, I’m reading Juliet, Naked, and it’s amazing so far. I love the connection to music connection once again. One of my fears is the possibility of my future being similar to the female protagonist. I admit, I haven’t read the end yet, but her dead relationship with an old “hipster” boyfriend strikes fear into my heart. I don’t want to end up like that. Only time will tell, I suppose, but I hope that in the end, she will get the love that she deserves. I’m sure it will have a fantastic ending. I hope you enjoyed receiving this letter as much as I’ve enjoyed reading your work. I have enclosed a self-addressed, stamped envelope should you choose to respond. I hope you do. Best regards, Sabina
