Start with an easy question to break the ice. “Hey Evan! I haven’t seen you in a while. How was your weekend?” “That game last night was awesome! You guys have gotten a lot better since last year. How much did your coach make you practice?” Comment on something interesting or funny around you. “It’s been so hot lately! I wonder how bad it has to get before they cancel school...” “Can you believe how long this line is? Wanna bet we don’t even get to the front before the bell rings?” Use light, self-deprecating humor to put him at ease. “I knew I should’ve studied for that test. When Ms. Carson tells us that one person got 0 points, you’ll know who it is!” “What, you didn’t know I’m a singer?? Oh yeah. Everyone’s still talking about that time I sang the happy birthday song last year. I’m pretty much famous.” Switch topics to something easy and casual if conversation lags. “Anyways, what are you up to this weekend?” “This is so random, but I was just thinking about that time Franco fell asleep during class… remember that?” Give them an easy out if it seems like they feel awkward. “You have class, right? I’ll stop talking your ear off, haha.” “Well, I don’t want to make us late. Wanna walk to the meeting together?” Say goodbye in a friendly, upbeat way. “Great to catch up with you! We should get coffee some time.” “Nice to finally meet you!”
