Subject: I Have A Policy Comment - Education
Message:
Dear Mr. President,
I am a seventh grade teacher at an elementary school here in Cincinnati. I have been teaching for four years now, and I love every minute of my job. I love working with these students and watching their knowledge grow, and I really enjoy working with their parents and helping my kids take their skills to the next level at home.
Like most teachers, I endure my share of problem students and even problem parents. With any job, you have disagreements with coworkers and supervisors and can’t help feeling overworked and underpaid. But as a teacher, I don’t feel it is right we have to deal with these sorts of problems while being forced to use outdated textbooks and supplies.
You and your fellow politicians understand the importance of education. You wouldn’t be where you are today without the help of teachers and school staff. But it breaks my heart that year after year I am forced to set aside my own money to buy supplies for my students. I know that with the right funding and support, our students would be able to compete on a national and global level and become world leaders.
I ask that you get behind local, state, and national funding initiatives dedicated to keeping textbooks and basic school supplies like notebooks, rulers, and maps up to date and consistently in the hands of teachers and their students.
Thank you for your time.
Respectfully,
Cynthia Prader
