Say hi in a friendly and upbeat way when you’re both on your own. Be gentle and not too enthusiastic.
“Hey, you’re Peter, right? I’m Jenna, we’re in the same science class.”
“Hi! I’m Jordan. I don’t think we’ve met yet?”
Ask them a low-pressure question.
“Have you tried the burritos at lunch yet? I think they’re the only edible things in this cafeteria, haha.”
“You’re in the new art show, right? I think that’s so cool. I’ve always wished I was better at drawing. Do you do sketches or paintings, or something else?”
Make a joke or funny comment.
“Mr. Lee tells the weirdest stories in class. Did he tell your period the one about his new dog? I was like… what is going on??”
“I think I’m just gonna go get a flip phone one of these days. My iPhone is going sooo slow, and it’s also huge! It doesn’t even fit in my pocket, I have to just lug it around everywhere. Let’s go back to the good old days.”
Keep your first conversation short and friendly, and be specific about seeing him again.
“It was really nice to finally meet you! I’ll see you in class.”
“Good luck on the presentation! Tell me how it goes after, OK?”
