1. Introduce yourself. If you are meeting them for the first time: “Hi, my name’s Caroline.” “I don’t think we’ve met yet. I’m Jose, what’s your name?” “Hi! I’m Jason’s friend David. It’s nice to meet you.” If you’ve already met them: “Hi! What’s up?” “Hey, it’s nice to see you again. How are you?” 2. Ask your crush about themselves. DON’T ask “yes” or “no” questions DO ask “why” or “how” questions “Mark told me you like to travel. Have you ever visited France?” “I’m planning a trip to Europe, so I’d love to hear about your experiences there.” “Do you play the violin?” “When did you start learning the violin?” “Are you a member of the student government?” “What do you think of the new principal?” “Did you just move to Pennsylvania?” “What was it like back in California?” 3. If your crush is telling a long story, interject occasionally to show your interest. What was Spain like? Spain was amazing. I wish I’d gotten to spend more time there. We started in Barcelona, and I literally spent all day on the beach. But of course we ate a lot too. Was the food amazing? What did you eat? Lots of fish and seafood, and all the restaurants served tapas. I must have drunk a gallon of horchata per day. I don’t blame you—I love that stuff. Same! And besides that, we just walked around the town. Luckily the weather was nice enough, so we didn’t have to worry about taking the metro. I think my absolute favorite place was Park Guell. I’ve heard of Park Guell! That’s where the salamander is, right?
